Dries Van Noten has launched two books that capture the spirit of the House’s Fall 2016 collections, one for womenswear and one menswear.
For the book focused solely on womenswear, the renowned designer tapped British artist Gill Button who manages to depict the silhouettes and fabrics — velvets, satins and faux furs — as well as Van Noten’s true vision and inspiration for the collection. Button illustrates the turbulent relationship between Marchesa Luisa Casati and the poet Gabriele D’Annunzio that served as the starting point for the collection. A femme fetale of her age, Casati was famed for keeping pet cheetahs, her patronage of the Ballet Russes, and for draping dozens of necklaces—and sometimes even live snakes—around her bare neck.
For the menswear book, Dries rounded up imagery from both amateur and professional photographers who attended the show at the Paris Opera Garnier in January. The designer waited no less than seventeen years before being granted permission to stage a runway show in the reknowed gilded location so what the book documents is actually a personal landmark for the Belgian designer and a super achievement for the fashion house. We couldnt ask for more!
