Palais Galliera Museum -”AZZEDINE ALAIA” Exhibition, 2013

Palais Galliera, aka the Fashion Museum of Paris, is re opening on 28th September after several years of renovation and could not be found a more appropriately themed exhibition as the ”Azzedine Alaia” one.The exhibition features 70 iconic design pieces of the couturier who defined the idea of ”shape” in female dresses, from his first collection in 1979 till now. Alaia insisted in working at all stages of the production of a garment: draw a pattern, draw on the canvas shapes and volumes, cut, even sew sew and tame tissue so have absolute control of the fabric and the way it defines female curves,a process similar to a sculptor’s one.“It is all those years of work — and when I look at it, I see the continuity; there is no season that pushes another out of date,” said Azzedine Alaïa and was oh-so true and a great lesson to younger designers…The exhibition starts at 28th September in Paris and is a must-see for all serious fashion scholars or lovers.
