First was the mirrored catwalk.Raised expectations as what we were about to see.Personally i consider Christopher Kane a great talent even though perhaps too ”fond of the use of science in the process of designing and adornment.See,i’m more old school. The SS-RTW 2013 collection he presented though was so to say, unexpectedly good.
The main theme of the collection was indeed ”flower power” yet performed in such a genius way by returning to the roots of the idea, the petals and the color amalgama of flowers in nature.Mr Kane himself stated that science and the way motifs such as photosynthesis (oxygen-out-carbon-dioxide-in process) and the imprint of flower leaves was his main influence, and god he did it well!.Yet a main idea was also ”reproduction” such as the mittor-like effects of graphic designs on items in tune with the ”reproductive” effect of the mirrored catwalk.”Sterilized petals”,crocodile clips on clothes as if deconstructing them,a blast of colors in dresses. In his words: ””We live because of flowers and trees. They produce oxygen. But we take them for granted.”Great pleating in skirts, strategic cuts and sterilized petals as a piece of adornment were the basis of this collection, perhaps his most successful one. I don’t know how the clothes will appear once in shop windows, but inside the multimirrored building they were bringing a breath of fresh air. You’ve won me back Mr Kane.
